F9 is read differently on each JennAir microwave type. Both readings and the reset.
Model compatibility: JennAir reuses codes across series and model years, so F9 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
JennAir lists F9 as incorrect supply or hardwire wiring (built-in) or a possible control board or relay control board fault (over-the-range).
The two JennAir microwave help pages give different readings of F9. Use the part for your type.
Over-the-range microwave
This entry is brief. The possible faults named are the appliance control board, the relay control board and the wiring. Neither an installation cause nor an outage cause is given.
Built-in microwave
Here F9 most often means incorrect wiring at the home electrical supply or the hardwire connection. Two questions follow.
Was it just installed or connected? If the microwave went in recently and fails to run, JennAir wants a qualified electrician to check the supply.
Did the power go out or surge? JennAir explains that heavy electrical “noise” on the line during an outage may have been read by the control as the wrong voltage, which can display F9, F9 E0 or PF. Keys pressed before the 10-second delay at power-up may do the same.
Resetting
For either type, turn the breaker off for one minute, turn it on, and watch the microwave for one minute. On the built-in page the wording is to monitor the unit and verify operation.
Who to call
Just installed built-in: an electrician first, since the named cause is supply wiring. Any other F9 that survives the reset: a technician.
Our Los Angeles number for JennAir microwave service is (310) 622-9465. Let us know whether F9 followed new work on the electrical connection or a power outage.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
