Error codeF8E4
ApplianceDishwasher
Quick answer
F8E4 on a JennAir dishwasher means the drip tray holds water. Shut off the supply, press Cancel, check new-install items and empty the tray.
Model compatibility: JennAir reuses codes across series and model years, so F8E4 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
F8E4 means water was found in the dishwasher drip tray.
When a JennAir dishwasher displays F8E4, water has been found in the drip tray. The help page is built around questions. A freshly installed unit gets the longest answer, so begin there if that describes yours.
Right away
Shut off the water supply to the dishwasher.
Press Cancel one time to stop the alarm tone.
Leave the power on and keep the door shut.
JennAir notes that a drain sequence starts by itself and the machine will not run.
New installation checklist
Water supply
Go over each connection and confirm the rubber washer sits in every fitting.
The 90 degree elbow’s 3/4 inch (19 mm) fitting threads up into the valve. Turn it by hand so it does not cross-thread.
Afterward test it with pliers. JennAir says it may need another 1/4 to 1/2 turn to seal the gasket.
The fill hose comes out at the unit’s rear left side.
Float switch
Confirm it is plugged in: align the connector with the housing and press until the locking tab can be seen over the back of the connector.
Neither the power cord nor the supply wire may rest on the motor or on the lower tub.
Tray removal and clearing the code
Water in the tray has to come out. Squeeze the snap at each side toward the middle and draw the tray toward you. Go gently; the float switch wire is still connected and can be damaged by a hard or long pull. To clear the code, press Cancel once for the alarm, and once more to dismiss the code itself.
Foam in the tub
JennAir asks about suds too. Dish soap suds; dishwasher detergent does not. Where foam is present, power the dishwasher down and let it die back. An excess of detergent, or the wrong sort, can force water out and cause a leak.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
