E2 has two entries at JennAir, one about heat and one about cookware. Both are explained here.
Model compatibility: JennAir reuses codes across series and model years, so E2 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
JennAir gives two readings for E2: the cooktop is too hot (empty pan), or the cookware is not ferromagnetic.
Look up E2 on JennAir’s induction cooktop page and you will find it listed twice, with two unrelated explanations. The source does not say which one fits a given display, so each is described below.
Reading one: heat
Very high temperatures make the control panel switch itself off, because the electronics inside have warmed past a safe level. JennAir points to a single habit behind it: turning the cooktop on while a dry pot sits on a cooking area. The steps are:
burner off;
pan or pot lifted away;
food or liquid added to it;
pan back on the area and a restart, after the cooktop has cooled.
Reading two: the pan itself
Induction responds only to magnetic (ferromagnetic) cookware. JennAir approves cast iron, enamel-coated steel, and any stainless steel built with induction in mind. Hold a magnet against the underside: if it clings, the pot qualifies.
Watch out for pans where just a portion of the base is magnetic. JennAir says those may warm unevenly, or stay cooler than expected. If most of the base is non-magnetic, the cooktop may not sense the pan, so the zone does not start at all.
Common finish
Whichever entry applies, JennAir closes with the same reset: one minute with the breaker off, then on again, the cooktop given time to cool before use, and a minute of watching for the code.
Flagged conflict
JennAir leaves the two E2 entries unreconciled. If neither a dry-pan correction nor the magnet check clears E2, request a visit and quote the code.
Related codes
E3 bundles heat, dry pans, cookware and pot diameter into one entry.
F0E1 is an induction cookware message, cleared with two presses of On/Off.
