Error codeF9E1
ApplianceDishwasher
Quick answer
F9E1 on a JennAir dishwasher: long drain, not draining. Work through the filter, hose, disposer and air gap, then cycle the power.
Model compatibility: JennAir reuses codes across series and model years, so F9E1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
F9E1 is JennAir's long drain code: the dishwasher is not draining.
About F9E1
JennAir calls F9E1 “Long Drain”: water is not leaving the dishwasher. The entry comes with a real list of things to try, and nearly all of them need no tools.
Five things to look at
Filter. Take it out and rinse it thoroughly under running water.
Drain hose. Follow it from the back of the dishwasher to the sink, looking for a kink, a pinch or a clog. It is meant to be routed properly, on the correct side and inside the frame.
Garbage disposer. If one is attached, it needs to be clear. On a new installation, the knockout plug must have been removed from the disposer inlet. Running the disposer clears out food.
Air gap. Where there is one, its own manufacturer explains how to remove the cap and clear any blockage.
Suds. Foam or bubbles mean the dishwasher should be switched off until they disperse.
Power cycle afterward
With the physical checks finished, reset the control by removing power for 30 seconds. Unplug a corded model and plug it back in. For a hard-wired model, switch its breaker off at the home electrical panel for the same 30 seconds and back on. Then resume the cycle.
Where suds come from
Dish soap produces suds and dishwasher detergent does not. Using the wrong kind, or too much, can over-suds the tub, and JennAir warns that suds can push water out, leading to leaks or poor washing. Choose a detergent made for automatic dishwashers.
No change after all that
JennAir gives nothing further. Once the filter, hose, disposer and air gap are clear, a technician is the next logical step. The F9E2 entry carries related drain information.

F9E2 is the drain motor error and shares much of this drain checklist.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
