Error codeF12 / F-12
ApplianceCooktop
Quick answer
The manufacturer is not consistent about F12. See each description and the reset that goes with it.
Model compatibility: JennAir reuses codes across series and model years, so F12 / F-12 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
JennAir gives conflicting descriptions: a touch control module communication error, or a possible hotplate or wiring problem; F-12 has a reset only.
JennAir contradicts itself over this one. On the electric cooktop help page, F12 appears in three entries, and the explanations differ. The induction cooktop page lists F-12 too, but with only a reset and no stated cause.
The descriptions, laid out
Two electric-cooktop entries: an internal communication error on the touch control module.
One electric-cooktop entry: a possible problem with a hotplate (a cooking surface, burner or element) or with its wiring.
Induction cooktop, F-12: reset steps and nothing else.
No part of the source says which entry matches which cooktop. So avoid concluding the element is bad just because a hotplate entry exists, and avoid concluding the control module is bad for the same reason.
Resetting an electric cooktop
Turn the breaker off and leave it for a minute, then turn it on. Keep watching the cooktop for a minute; if the code does not return, try every cooking area to see that each one responds.
Resetting for F-12
The induction page wants something shorter. Disconnect the cooktop from its power supply, wait a few seconds, and connect it again. If the code is still showing, phone the service center with the code.
Useful detail for the technician
With a control-module explanation and a hotplate explanation both on record, it helps to notice whether the code shows while every cooking area is off or only once one is turned on. This is our suggestion rather than a JennAir step, but it narrows the search.
If F12 or F-12 outlasts the reset, call (310) 622-9465 for JennAir cooktop service in Los Angeles, and read the code out exactly as it appears on the display.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
